Abstract
The complexity of soil matrices requires a sample preparation
approach that can efficiently recover per- and polyfluoroalkyl
substances (PFAS) while effectively removing co-extracted
components prior to instrumental analysis. Conventional
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 1633A
workflows for solid matrices incorporate solvent extraction
followed by multiple post-extraction processing and cleanup
steps. This study evaluated INTEC Technology™ with the EDGE
PFAS™ system and Q-Insert™ PFAS-Enviro as an automated
alternative for PFAS extraction, cleanup, and filtration. As the
first stage of method validation, an initial demonstration of
capability (IDOC) was performed using sand as the reference
matrix to assess recovery and precision across the EPA Method
1633A target analyte list. All evaluated native compounds
and extracted internal standards met applicable recovery and
precision acceptance criteria. These results establish baseline
method performance for the INTEC workflow and provide the
foundation for subsequent evaluation of method sensitivity and
performance in representative soil matrices.
