Abstract
Honey is imported from all around the globe, and requires
monitoring for a variety of unwanted mycotoxins, pesticides,
veterinary drug residues. These residues cover a wide range
of different chemistries and are typically part of a complex
matrix, making extraction and analysis challenging. Herein,
we provide an automated multi-residue extraction method for
mycotoxins, veterinary drugs, and pesticides in honey using
the EDGE®automated solvent exaction system. In this method,
extraction, in-cell cleanup, and filtration are all accomplished
in under 10 minutes. Following extraction, spiked samples
were centrifuged and analyzed by LC-MS/MS through direct
injection. Overall, excellent recoveries and reproducibility were
achieved for the contaminants analyzed. The EDGE system
offers a fast, reliable, and scalable method and workflow
suitable for multi-class residue analysis in honey.
