Sample Preparation and Analysis of Fly Ash Using Sequential Microwave Digestion

Abstract

Elemental analysis of fly ash is essential for environmental monitoring, regulatory compliance, and evaluating its suitability for beneficial reuse. Accurate characterization requires a robust sample preparation method capable of breaking down the complex silicate, aluminosilicate, and metal-oxide matrix typically present in fly ash. Sequential microwave digestion provides a safe, rapid, and efficient approach for preparing these difficult materials for elemental analysis by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS).
