Paints and Coatings Application Note
As the global paints and coatings market approaches $150 Billion, and the products become more numerous and varied, the industry is challenged by the need to produce high quality, functional products. To ensure this level of quality, manufacturers perform a number of quality checks on finished products before shipment. Additionally, almost all suppliers require a COA on certain product specs, meaning some level of testing must also be completed in-process. But optimizing process control tests to ensure proper formulations, which can improve yields and reduce rejected product, helps increase profits for manufacturers. But as more producers move to rapid analyses, the importance of accuracy must not be lost.
CEM has spent the last 40 years developing process control equipment that has proven to not only reduce analysis time, but to do so with technology that maintains that accuracy and precision typically found with industry ASTM standard methods. The newly introduced SMART 6 can provide Moisture/Solids results on water and solvent based products, and even powder coatings, in 2-3 minutes, while results compare closely to ASTM D2369. The Phoenix Muffle furnace can ash samples for pigment/binder ratios in 10 minutes, versus the standard 2 hour test. And the SAM 255 drying system is the industry standard for drying paint to test hiding power and perform spectral analyses. Each system allows the user to greatly reduce analysis time of each batch, while maintaining the confidence that the results are accurate and reliable.
